Kamagra: what is actually in it

A brand name over a familiar molecule

Kamagra is a brand name, not a different drug. What is inside is sildenafil — the same compound as the original. Knowing that answers most of the questions people have, and it sets realistic expectations about what it will and will not do. Without prescription, plain packaging.

So what is Kamagra, exactly?

Kamagra is a brand under which sildenafil is sold in several formats — standard tablets, chewables, oral jelly and lozenges.

The active ingredient does not change between those. What changes is how it gets into you, and how fast.

This page covers the standard tablet. The same molecule, taken the conventional way.

What sildenafil does, properly explained

An erection is a hydraulic event that the nervous system starts.

Arousal causes nerve endings in the erectile tissue to release nitric oxide. That sets off production of a messenger molecule which relaxes the smooth muscle wrapped around the small arteries there.

Relaxed arteries let blood in. The tissue swells, and in swelling it compresses the veins that would normaly drain it. Blood goes in faster than it comes out, and stays.

An enzyme called PDE5 breaks that messenger down, which is how an erection ends under normal circumstances.

Sildenafil blocks PDE5. The messenger survives longer, so the state holds.

This is why arousal remains essential. The drug prevents something ending; it does not start anything.

Realistic expectations

Worth setting out, because disappointment usually comes from the wrong expectation rather than the wrong dose.

It will not create desire. If the problem is low libido rather than mechanics, this is the wrong tool.

It will not work instantly. Around an hour on a standard tablet.

It will not override a large fatty meal, a heavy drinking session, or significant anxiety in the moment.

What it will do is make a working mechanism considerably more reliable, which for most men is the entire issue.

Taking it

Roughly an hour beforehand.
Not on top of a heavy, fatty meal.
Once in twenty-four hours.
Alcohol in moderation at most.
No grapefruit juice.
Arousal required.

Several attempts before judging. The first occasion carries expectation that works directly against the result.

Nitrates: the one hard stop

This is the single line on the page with no room for interpretation.

Glyceryl trinitrate, isosorbide mononitrate, isosorbide dinitrate, nicorandil — anything taken for angina, including the spray carried for emergencies.

Together they can drop blood pressure to a dangerous level. Not mild dizziness. Circulatory collapse.

The same applies to amyl nitrite used recreationally, sold as poppers. That combination reaches emergency departments more often than anyone admits.

If you take anything in that group, this is out. No exceptions, no gap, no half tablet.

Who should not take it

Recent heart attack or stroke
Unstable angina, or chest pain on light exertion
Severe heart failure
Uncontrolled high blood pressure, or markedly low blood pressure
Severe liver or kidney disease
Retinitis pigmentosa
Previous sudden vision loss from reduced optic nerve blood supply

Alpha blockers for an enlarged prostate lower blood pressure too, and the effects add together. That combination needs arranging deliberately rather than taken casually.

Possible side effects

Headache, the most common
Flushing and warmth in the face
Blocked nose
Indigestion
Blue tinge to vision, light sensitivity
Dizziness
Back or muscle ache

The visual effect comes from partial action on a related enzyme in the retina. Temporary, harmless, and disconcerting if nobody warned you.

Two things that need help immediately

An erection lasting more than four hours. Not something to wait out — after several hours the tissue starts to sustain permanent damage.

Sudden loss of vision or hearing, one side or both. Stop and get seen urgently.

Both rare. Both measured in hours.

It may be telling you something

The arteries supplying erectile tissue are small, and they narrow before the larger coronary arteries do — sometimes years before.

Difficulty that developed slowly over months can therefore be an early sign of vascular disease. Blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol are worth checking.

A sudden onset, limited to certain situations, with morning erections still present, usually points elsewhere: stress, exhaustion, the relationship, or a medicine recently started.

Things that help without a tablet

Stopping smoking — vessels respond quickly
Regular aerobic exercise
Losing excess weight
Less alcohol
Proper sleep
Pelvic floor exercises
Reviewing medicines you already take

Ordering without prescription: how it works

Most people order a pack to keep rather than buying around a specific occasion.

Pick the strength and the pack size, put in a delivery address, confirm. Couple of minutes, any time of day, no queue and no conversation across a counter.

It goes out in plain packaging. No pharmacy name on the outside, nothing that hints at what is inside. How long delivery takes depends on where the parcel is headed.

On price it comes down to strength and pack size. Larger packs generally work out better per unit.

The outside of the parcel gives nothing away, wherever in the UK it is going. No pharmacy branding, no product name, nothing that suggests medication. For most customers that is the whole reason for ordering online.
